Gareth and officers in Rayners Lane
Gareth and officers in Rayners Lane

On Friday, as part of the #GiveaDaytoPolicing scheme, I spent a day with the Harrow Metropolitan Police Service.

This was an illuminating experience, which demonstrated many of the challenges currently being faced on the front line of policing in Harrow West. So often, the police are the last line in emergency service, and with the loss of over 173 police officers in Harrow since Theresa May took over as Home Secretary in 2010, it is unsurprising to see they are so easily overstretched.

Following the events in Rayners Lane earlier this week, I will continue to push the Government for more police in Harrow, and for more support to divert young people away from gangs. This week’s events will not stop Rayners Lane from being a great place to live.
