Town Centre Police Team Campaign
It is astonishing that Harrow Town Centre has missed out on getting its own dedicated Town Centre plan. Sign my petition calling on the Met Police for an urgent reconsideration. Gareth Thomas MP
The Town Centre Teams recently announced for Uxbridge and Wembley typically consist of 25 additional officers – one inspector, three sergeants and 21 police constables. In Harrow, we don’t yet have the level of local policing that we had under the last Labour Government, when each ward had a Sergeant, 3 police constables and 3 or 4 PCSOs. I’ve written to the Met Police to understand why on earth Harrow Town Centre has missed out again on getting a dedicated Town Centre plan.
I welcome the announcement of a dedicated team for Uxbridge and Wembley but given that Harrow is both a significant commercial district, has an increasing nightlife and is an important transport hub with Harrow Bus Station and Harrow on the Hill Station both within the town centre, I struggle to understand why it hasn’t been prioritised for its own dedicated team of police officers. I’ve asked to see an assessment for Harrow’s town centre, which we know experiences disproportionately more crime and must certainly be comparable to Harlesden and Uxbridge.
