Gareth Thomas MP From Harrow, For Harrow

On 7 May 1945, the nation tuned in to the historic announcement that the war in Europe had ended. The UK marked the occasion with two public holidays, the first on 8 May – VE Day. Across the country, people flooded the streets in celebration, from Buckingham Palace to neighbourhoods in Harrow.
Residents have reached out, as I understand that roads in Brent and Barnet will be closing for street parties, yet Harrow Council has not announced similar plans. This is a missed opportunity. As we could not properly commemorate VE Day 75 due to Covid, this would be a great chance to honour a significant moment in history and, importantly, share it with a new generation.
I am calling on Conservative run Harrow Council to make it easier for Harrow residents to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two—please add your name to my open letter below!
